The Binghamton Breakfast Rotary Club Foundation made a donation again this year to the IBI Group, led by our club member Dan Whelan.
The group volunteered their time to create a structure from canned food goods at the Oakdale Mall with the theme "when fighting hunger, the sky is the limit"  Look at our photo library for pictures of the "Empire State Building" built from canned goods.
All canned food is donated to local food pantries around the Broome County area.

We had our annual "Parade Day" Pancake Breakfast at a new location [St. Patrick's Church in Binghamton] this year, and it was a great success!
The Binghamton Breakfast Rotary Club has been serving up a Pancake Breakfast on the same day as Binghamton's St. Patrick's Day Parade.  This year the Pancake Breakfast was on Saturday, March 2, 2019.
Our breakfast is much more than pancakes.  We serve pancakes, toast, sausages, scrambled eggs, juice, coffee, tea in a very friendly and social environment.  We have great participation from our club members for this event, including breakfast ticket donations to support some non-profit organizations to a free breakfast.  We even provide live music from the Java Joe Jammer's Band who donate their time to provide some entertainment.

Jim Pudish's  wife Heather also worked with students from Whitney Point Schools to make Christmas Cards for the Troops.

The Binghamton Breakfast Rotary Club made a $500 donation to the Food Bank of the Southern Tier.  This will support the Binghamton High School BackPack Program to make a difference in the life of a child struggling with hunger.
In the Southern Tier, fifty percent of school-aged children qualify for free or reduced price lunch during the school year.  That equates to over 40,000 kids who are at risk of being hungry.
When school is not in session over weekends and holiday breaks, many of those children do not have access to enough nutritious food so adequately support their physical and cognitive development.

Darlene had a wonderful weekend visit with Cara and her parents.  They visited the Cathedral in Cologne, and are pictured enjoying a beer and some hearty potato soup at a well known brewery.
They spent time shopping in Dusseldorf, and sightseeing.  Cara is doing well in her studies, and just finished an 18 page term paper in English.  It counts for half her grade in English, and after proofreading it, I can assure the club it is college level work.

We were also very excited to receive an Emerald award from Rotary International Paul Harris Fellows for Bill Scheider.  Bill has been a very generous Rotarian and has been the club's treasurer for many years.  Bill also named Nick Seketa a Paul Harris Fellow this year.  Nick was involved with a Brooks BBQ Fundraiser for his church for years, and offered the Binghamton Breakfast Rotary Club this fundraiser.  This new fundraiser has made a large impact on our annual fundraising campaign.

The Binghamton Breakfast Rotary Club was treated to a nice breakfast and tour of the A.V.R.E. facility on Court Street in Binghamton.  The tour and program was very interesting for all to understand how A.V.R.E offers so many programs, services, and a work environment for people with vision loss.  Their mission is to create opportunities for success and independence with people who are blind or visually impaired.  A BIG thank you to Ken Fernald and his staff for a great breakfast and tour.
